Credit goes to http://2013.promatshow.com/seminars/ This is used as a reference in my courses. The North American Seaboard has been transformed by the joint forces of globalization, regionalization and containerization. Since the mid 1990s ports show a process of traffic concentration among largest port gateways. Hinterland access, the configuration of shipping line networks and supply chain management are the most significant factors driving the process at ports. Port competition is not determined by a single factor, but by several: port infrastructure, liner service (frequency of services), the availability of distribution centers and the market size that can be reached within 24 hours. Participants in this session will learn trends in ports, the forecasted growth in ports and have the ...
See a video on Japan domestic distribution via sea. This series of short videos by SEFCO EXPORT includes images taken in and around both Yokohama Bay and Tokyo Harbor. As an island nation, Japan has along history as well as current focus on maritime activities. Its port museums reflect this history and interest; thousands of students go on tours of the museums which help stoke interest in and appreciation for maritime science ad commerce. Included in this series, one can see: Lift-van crates stored in transit while on the docks at Yokohama Bay, covered by a large canopy, on the dock and out of doors. (Which leads us to the question: would your LCL cargo be well enough protected, to withstand the elements which dockside or in transit? Export packaging is crucial element to sa...
5000 LLITNs supplied by Against Malaria Foundation arrived on the 21st February 2008 for free distribution in 44 villages from 10 subdivisions of Cameroon situated in the forest region where malaria occurs throughout the year, the main vector of the parasite Plasmodium falciparum being Anopheles gambiae. Studies in these villages had shown the presence of more than 200 mosquitoes per night per house making it very difficult due to being disturbed by the mosquito bites throughout the night.
Jean-Paul Rodrigue received a Ph.D. in Transport Geography from the Université de Montréal (1994) and has been a professor at Hofstra University since 1999. Dr. Rodrigue's research interests mainly cover the fields of transportation and economics as they relate to logistics and global freight distribution. Specific topics over which he has published extensively cover maritime transport systems and logistics, global supply chains and production networks, gateways and transport corridors. He has authored five books, 25 book chapters, more than 40 peer reviewed papers, numerous reports, and delivered more than 135 conferences and seminar presentations, mostly at the international level. 2013-03-19 - M3MSat is a tele-detection satellite, and its mission is to demonstrate and test the technology of three instruments. M3MSat will orbit around Earth at an altitude of approximately 650 kilometres and travel over all Canadian waters approximately ten times a day. The satellite is an advance in the monitoring of Canadian waters, as its position above Earth will allow it to cover a much larger area than ground sensors to capture AIS signals. So much of history has really been tightly kept in a little box that archaeology is now cracking open. I started in archaeology when I was fourteen. And I figured, “What could I do? What was left to be found?” 95% of the oceans remain unknown. So if you want to go explore, if you want to find something, the oceans are a tremendous place to work. Original video source: oceantoday.noaa.gov/ma_intro Ocean Today is an interactive exhibit that plays short videos on ocean related themes. Visitors can select from 200+ videos on topics ranging from deep-‐sea exploration, marine species, and restoration projects to hurricanes, oceans and human health, and climate science and research. These videos are a free resource and are available on our website at oceantoday.noaa.gov

Port cities like Miami Dade in South Florida are host to an exploding number of port-connected transportation, distribution and logistics (TDL) employers. Those employers face a critical need for a proven solution to recruiting, training, retaining and promoting skilled workers. As one of only 8 U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) national industry partners TransPORTs is helping employers meet that need with structured apprenticeship programs. Learn more about TransPORTs' role and ability to provide technical assistance, program support and incentive funding at www.transportsapprenticeship.com.

The Ocean is essential to life on Earth. Most of Earth's water is stored in the ocean. Although 40 percent of Earth's population lives within, or near coastal regions- the ocean impacts people everywhere. Without the ocean, our planet would be uninhabitable. This animation helps to convey the importance of Earth's oceanic processes as one component of Earth's interrelated systems. This animation uses Earth science data from a variety of sensors on NASA Earth observing satellites to measure physical oceanography parameters such as ocean currents, ocean winds, sea surface height and sea surface temperature. These measurements, in combination with atmospheric measurements such as surface air temperature, precipitation and clouds can help scientists understand the ocean's impact on weather an...
